Smoke Signal

I've tried special-needs parenting groups, but I never stay long, or participate very much. All the talk of this cure and that therapy and the constant, heavy commiserating keeps me quiet. When I say my child doesn't need fixing because he's not broken, there's rarely anyone who agrees.

My child is Autistic. And I'm not sad about it.

I just wish I had a group of parents I could belong to. This post is my one voice shouting into the ether... I want to find my people. Our people.

I want to find the ones who find joy in parenting such a unique person. I want to find the moms who recognize that this is a different road, but that it's a good  road.  This journey I'm on with C is not just good enough; it's good.

I want to find a group of parents who are happy with our kids just as they are.  I don't mean just "accepting what we cannot change". I mean parents who are truly thankful for the child they have, and who believe that Autism is part and parcel of that wonderful person.

Are they out there?
